How to Create Authenticity in a World Dominated by AI
Build and hone your Unpromptable Writing Voice
A few years ago, I lost a big freelance client.
And you guessed it. It was because of AI. They found an AI tool that could “replace me” — I think it was Jasper AI, or some of its early ilk.
At first, I was furious.
And yes, I was one of the people who were very anti-AI. It did cause me a few months of grief and uncertainty.
But I got back on my feet and saw the writing on the wall: over time, this whole AI thing will become more and more significant. That first instance of losing a trusted client because of Jasper wasn’t just some fluke — it was the signs of a nuke dropped in the writing industry.
That’s why I became curious, and experimented more.
It was fast, sure. But it was also painfully generic. Every blog post sounding like it was written by an intern who spent five minutes Googling the topic.
This issue just got worse over time.
Businesses love the speed and efficiency of AI tools. They crank out blogs, emails, and social posts in seconds. An assembly line of “branded content.” But what happens when the content feels like it was made in a factory? People stop trusting it.
They stop trusting you.
This is the writing industry’s burning issue. AI tools are great at generating content, but they’re terrible at creating connection. And connection is what makes people buy, follow, and stay loyal.
The roots of inauthenticity
Authenticity doesn’t come from avoiding automation. It doesn’t come from vague things like “heart” and “soul” and whatever.
Instead, it comes from clarity. It comes from knowing your values, principles, and story.
Here’s the problem: AI doesn’t know your story. It doesn’t care about your values.
It can write a thousand words about “10 ways to increase productivity” without ever understanding what productivity means to you—or your audience.
So what happens when the audience senses that lack of depth? Yep, you guessed it. They’re going to drop you like hot garbage.
I’ve seen this firsthand. Remember when everyone was obsessed with AI tools like Jasper? Writers flooded the internet with AI-generated listicles. Everyone could spot them from a mile away. They all had the same flat tone, the same rehashed tips, the same lack of clarity.
The issue isn’t that AI exists. It’s that businesses use it to replace their voice instead of amplifying it.
Build an Unpromptable Writing Voice
To create content that connects, you need a writing voice that AI can’t mimic. I call it an Unpromptable Writing Voice. It’s your secret weapon for staying authentic in an AI-dominated world.
Here’s an infographic that illustrates it best.
Here’s how you create one:
1. Start with your values
What do you stand for? What do you believe? These are the non-negotiables of your brand.
When I pivoted my business after losing that freelance client, I didn’t just learn how to use AI—I learned how to use it mindfully. And my main priority was that humanity and connection should come first. AI is just a tool to enhance them.
So, what is at the core of what you write? Here’s how you find out:
Write down your top three values. Then, reflect on how those values can shine through in every story.
2. Tap into your stories
People don’t connect with faceless brands. They connect with stories.
One of my most-read Medium articles came from a deeply personal story. I wrote about the months I spent jobless, doubting my skills, and feeling like I’d peaked. People reached out to me in the hundreds. Not because I had a fancy solution, but because my story felt real.
Think about your own stories.
What struggles have shaped you? What wins are you most proud of? Weave your brand around them, and share those.
They’re what make your brand human.
3. Forget trends. Focus on your principles.
Remember when everyone was writing LinkedIn posts about "quiet quitting"? Sure, they got clicks—but six months later, no one cares.
Trends fade. Principles don’t. Which one would you like to anchor your brand on?
Thus, focus on timeless ideas. But don’t just pick random buzzwords like integrity, creativity, and “service.” You need to reflect on your core values and the stories that define them.
AI can help you write faster. But it can’t teach you principles.
4. Experiment fearlessly
Your voice isn’t something you find. It’s something you build. And the only way to build it is through action.
Publish often. Play with tone. There’s no way to know what resonates most with you and your audience if everything only lives in your head. So, build in public — eventually, you will find it.
Also, write posts that scare you a little. When I started talking openly about AI and authenticity, I wasn’t sure how people would react. But they’re the ones that connected the most.
Take bold steps in public.
5. Be consistent
Your voice gets stronger every time you use it. Show up for your audience consistently.
Over time, they’ll start to recognize your style, your tone, and your perspective.
Over time, you’ll realize you’ve built something truly Unpromptable: not just a specific “writing style,” but a “writing spirit” — one that embodies your core values, principles, and stories.
A voice that reflects your humanity, and shines through the gray clouds of AI content.
Why your voice matters now more than ever
AI isn’t going anywhere.
The flood of mediocre, robotic content will only get worse. I predict it’ll become a gray sea of mediocrity. People will have to navigate that sea with their own tiny crafts, and they will look towards the horizon for any sign of where to go.
An unpromptable writing voice is a torch you hold aloft, which will rise above this dark, gray sea. It’s what will draw your audience to you.
Your unpromptable voice is your most powerful asset.
It’s your beacon in the dark. It’s what makes your brand shine, and your people trust you, even when your competitors are shouting louder.
When you create an Unpromptable Writing Voice, you’re not just refining a writing style.
You’re building a connection. A bond.
Something that AI can never replicate.
Final thoughts: My challenge to you
Next time you write a piece of content, ask yourself:
Does this reflect my values?
Does this share a part of my story?
Does this feel human?
If not, refine it until it is. Because in this AI-dominated world, the only thing that will make you unreplaceable is your Unpromptable Voice. If you want help, reach out. I’ve designed something to amplify your voice while keeping it authentic.
Let’s create something your audience will remember.
I appreciate you! You help fuel my spirit.
Hiii. How can I glean from this is writing articles to cover crime news?
